How to love

When you really love someone when you really really adore them, you’re just filled with so much love you just want to be close to them.

You try to get in as physically close as you can and still it’s not close enough. How can you get closer to someone you truly love?

How about this? What if they merged and dissolve themselves into the universe so that then they were permeating and part of every single particle?

What would that mean? That would mean that every single time you inhale you are breathing in your lover. It would mean that your lover is the one oxygenating your blood cells in your body.

How could you get closer than this? Continuously throughout your life, you would be inhaling them and exhaling them even while sleeping or unconscious, not a moment would not go by that you were not inhaling your lover, and that they were not the source and cause of your life and existence.

How can you get closer than that? If they were merged into every single particle around you, they are not only the breath, but they would be the very chair that you sit on when you eat breakfast. They would be the floor that you trust to walk on daily. They would be in every bite of food that you consume. Now we are beginning to be intimate with our lover.

When you are with your lover and you’re so close and you say I could eat you up I want to put you in my pocket and take you with me. I want to fit inside of your sweater.

Could they get any closer than being the actual food that you eat, that you digest, and that then becomes an integrated part of your body that enables you to function to exist and go about your day.

Now lets take a look at the other side of this perspective, if you want to be able to be closer to your lover. If you were totally, selflessly devoted to them, then maybe you dissolve yourself into the universe and become the very air that they breathe, sustain them at every moment. You become the essential element that they cannot live with without more than a couple of minutes. This is starting to sound like  a love song “I can’t breather without you”.

In this situation, you always available to them no matter where they go, and continue to provide them with the precious breath.

At the same time, you become every morsel of food that they eat, that gives them energy and sustenance. You are sent inside of their body into their digestive system, become dissolved by acid and then broken down into your base particles and reconstructed and shaped into your lovers DNA. Eventually you form every single structure in their body. All the tissues, muscles, bones, skin and hair are made up of what was once you because you are all the food that they have ever eaten.

You also become the ground that they stand on. You become the house and the rafters and the joists, the wood and the shingles in the roof over their head that keep them dry and protected from the elements.

You become a mountaintop and the vast beautiful scenic expanse that you lover can see while standing at the top of the mountain. You wait for 25 million years patiently, steadily, in the form of a mountain, slowly shifting under enormous pressures of tectonic plates until the day your lover climbs that mountain. You endure this waiting so that they can have this beautiful view and appreciate it for the 30 minutes they spend at the peak, but you are doing it our of pure, unadulterated, selfless love.

Have you ever been jealous that your lover goes to work and they interact with other people and other people get their attention? Well, then dissolve yourself into the universe become everybody on the planet. When your lover interacts with someone, when they help someone, when they have to report to their boss, it’s actually you. They are now actually conversing with you in every interaction, so you get to be in their presence at every moment. You get to experience every single moment that they go through in their day from all kinds of different perspectives, different vantage points and from different roles.

Become the car that they drive to get to work, become the fuel in the gas station so that a little small part of you can escape from the filler neck while they were gassing up their car and float upwards and get inhaled. Do this to become a fleeting whiff that they smell for just a moment, but to you it is worth it, because you had the opportunity to get closer to your lover.

If you could, would you chose this path of dissolution and merger in order to be as close as you could be to your lover? Would you take on all the challenges, the pain and the waiting just for the chance at deeper closeness?

Would this not be the truest form of love and devotion that you could express? To become the universe, to become everything and give yourself freely to your lover.

This can be done. Humans can do this. Jesus Christ was a human, and this is exactly what he did. He became everything. His love was so great that he merged himself into the universe. When he died for you, he was doing it out of pure love. In all the examples above, Christ is the one who dissolved, and you are the lover that he wants to be with. He merged himself into God “I sit by the throne of my father” and we know that God is everything, everywhere, omnipresent and so is Christ.

And so did the other spiritual masters, they did exactly as Christ instructed “and these things and greater things you shall do” they followed Christ’s example, and greater things have been carried out in the world, you simply may not have heard about them.

There are great masters, saints as they are know by some, who are merged with the universe because they love everyone just as much as Christ loved everyone. He laid out the framework for how to do this, he set the example. Many more than you might think have achieved this state, it is only difficult to see this because as Jesus said,  “Having eyes, do you not see?”.

Now you may be wondering, are you telling me to dissolve myself into the universe? What do you want me to jump into a vat of acid?

No that is much too literal of an understanding. Your physical form doesn’t have to change or go anywhere. You consciousness is what can dissolve and expand to encompass the entire universe.

I can tell you right now to imagine your entire home, let your consciousness become every room simultaneously, just as you can feel all the limbs in your body simultaneously. Then become your city, then your country, your consciousness does not have the limitations of the physical body.

If you can expand your focus beyond your self and your personal concerns, and start to consider everyone on the planet, you are on the path to developing that deep love for everyone that all the saints clearly exhibited.

There is no limit to how much your love can expand. It doesn’t run out, it needs not be limited to one, or five, or ten people. People say that God is love, and that God is infinite, so love must also be infinite. All humans are able to tap into and experience that infinite love with the right practice.

It takes practice, and to practice properly you need a good teacher. There are many such teachers all over the world, across religions as well as secular teachers. It’s up to you to seek one out if you want to learn how to love.

I will give you one more takeaway from this new interpretation of how to love.

Every time you breathe, every time you eat, every time you sit or stand or walk, it’s Jesus who is in the oxygen, who is in the food, who is in the ground and in your shoes, even in your own body, because he so loved you.

He so loved you, just you in particular, that he became everything. He is always there supporting you. In every cell of your body, in every object you use in your daily life, in every conversation you have throughout the day. This is what I think of when I think of the love that Christ had for man. I see it as an example for us to follow. I already mentioned, there are many who successfully followed that example. There is enough room in every particle, in every atom of consciousness to reside there, it’s not limited to Jesus’ love alone. Since we are all the same consciousness deep down, it’s not like there is only one seat and it’s occupied. If you can adopt the same consciousness, then you will get to share that same seat by the throne of the Father.
